On New Year’s Eve Missile Attacks Rock Ukraine

A hotel south of Kyiv’s city center and a residential building in another district were damaged, according to city officials.

The head of Ukraine’s presidential office, Kyrylo Tymoshenko, wrote on Telegram that emergency services were heading to the scene.

In a statement shortly before the attack, Oleksiy Kuleba, the governor of the surrounding Kyiv region, warned that air defenses were engaged in the area.

Nationwide Blasts

There were also attacks in other cities across Ukraine. In the southern region of Mykolaiv, local governor Vitaliy Kim reported that six people had been injured.

Kim claimed in a separate Telegram post that Russia had targeted civilians with the strikes, a claim Moscow had previously denied.

As well, Mr. Tymoshenko reported that residential buildings had been damaged by a strike in the southern industrial powerhouse city of Zaporizhzhia.

On Telegram, Ukraine’s defense ministry wrote, “With each new missile attack on civilian infrastructure, Ukrainians are more convinced of the need to fight until Putin’s regime collapses completely.”
